Green For Life: Book Report

Gillian Deacon's book Green For Life : 200 Simple Eco-Ideas for Every day is a simple and practical guide to making simple lifestyle changes to save the planet, and in many cases your money as well.
Deacon’s book, Green For Life, is 101 simple ways to reduce the impact people have on the world. It covers everything from green holiday planning to eco-friendly ways to unclogging a toilet to raising healthy kids. All the solutions are very practical and apply to normal everyday things people do. Every chapter is packed full of facts, tips, and internet sites for more information.

Did you know that cotton is sprayed with the most pesticides of any crop in the world and uses a quarter of the world's insecticides? Or that chemicals have now replaced bacteria and viruses as the main threat to human health? These are just two of the shocking and eye-opening facts Deacon has chalked her book full of. But it is not all about shock-and-aweing readers it is about informing people, and knowledge is power. This book gives practical and easy solutions to the problems enabling people to use make the changes. Often the solutions make life not only safer but easier than the conventional way we go about our business.

Even more important than the solutions this book has to simpler, cheaper lives, Green For Life’s main objective is to inspire people to care for the planet we all call home. Many times it is not simpler or cheaper. Being good stewards can be inconvenient, and yes it often can be more expensive in the short term, but a big theme in this book is not to make the changes only for yourself, but instead to make the changes for future generations.

This book was an eye opener for sure. Already I have begun to make more changes in my life. To ignore the facts I now know, or even not research things further, would now be selfish and ignorant of me. So these little changes have now begun and will continue to change. For "little by little on walks far"
